Having first tried and enjoyed NKD Pizza in Dubai, I was delighted to hear that local entrepreneur, Grant Clouston, was bringing the franchise to Edinburgh. The first branch has opened in Morningside, but Clouston has plans to open a number of other branches across the city in 2018.
NKD are famous for their NKD Tomato Sauce, Ancestral Blend dough, and fresh ingredients, and is a welcome addition to the already vibrant Edinburgh pizza scene.
NKD Pizza Ingredients
Clouston believes NKD’s attitude towards carefully sourced ingredients, and the fact that their hand-made ‘healthier’ dough is made from an ancestral blend of 10 grains, prebiotic agave fibre and probiotics (healthful bacteria like the ones found in yogurt for balance and digestive health), and bound by water – a surefire winner in Edinburgh’s Capital.
The team at NKD were kind enough to send over a few pizzas for us to try, and we were delighted. As I said, I was a regular of NKD in Dubai, and the Edinburgh contingent did the brand proud. While my husband and I ate well, we did not encounter the feeling of sickly overeating – an experience that so often follows a pizza binge. Instead, we felt truly satisfied. While Morningside is on the other side of town from us, we are confident that we will be making the drive regularly. The real challenge we will face is whether or not we will manage to get the pizzas home at all, I expect that arriving home with an empty pizza box under my arm will be a common occurrence.
