Sicilian Pastry Shop

25th April 2015 By ohtaste

Gluten Free Brownie from Sicilian Pastry Shop

Gluten Free Brownie from Sicilian Pastry Shop

From cannolis to brownies, tartufos to cream horns, the Sicilian Pastry Shop has it all. Extremely busy on Saturdays with people picking up cakes, the queue pretty much says it all. The traditional Sicilian pastries, bread, and cakes are renowned for being light, fluffy, indulgent….and addictive.

The shop is tiny and very basic looking but the traditional cakes are delicate, colourful and decorated according to your specifications. Their signature creme patisserie is delicious and a must have filling for anything and everything.

Who’s it for?: Celebrations cakes of any kind at a reasonable price.

The specifics: Located off Leith Walk, this bakery is no secret to those in the know. Renowned for light, fluffy sponge and traditional pastries.

At first Glance: Friendly, open space with a mismatch of tables and chairs, the cafe is simple and low key.

Bill of Fare: Sicilian pastries made in a traditional-style, family-run bakery.

The Frontrunners: The gluten free brownie is always a winner, as is the lemon sponge cake with vanilla icing.

The Feeling: Small bakery on Albert Street in Leith, a huge variety of baked good made daily.

The Team: Italian run family business, friendly(ish) but to the point.

Doubtful: Although utterly delicious, we don’t personally find them to be the most elegant of cakes. Saying that, instructions can be specific and all cakes can be customised.

The Bottom Line: Quality cakes at very reasonable prices.

Find them: 14-16 Albert Street, Edinburgh EH7 5LG
