Co-owner, Charlotte Thompson asked OH! Taste to photograph some of their menu and now, with their new events catering business newly launched, we though it was the perfect time to share some of her plans for the upcoming year.
We opened in December 2012. It took us a couple of years to find our feet but for the last two it’s been amazing. It was all Chris, (my husband). He had a vision and I was really unsure about taking the leap. But 4 years later I’m delighted we did.
The food we make here is simple, cooked from the heart and, most importantly, food we really want to eat. I think that shows in the quality of he dishes. We don’t try and be too much, just do what we do, well. Simple flavours, beautiful presentation and honest produce.
The atmosphere is so changeable. Some mornings I walk in and it’s babies and mamas galore, other days it’s foodies, young couples and sometimes it’s full of students.
I think that Stockbridge, over the last two or three years, had really modernised. It’s attracted a younger crowd and because of that, local eateries have upped their game. The more good places to eat in stockbridge, the better. I hope, that we have had a positive impact on that.
The set backs came quick and fast when we first opened. It’s been an enormous learning curve.
Our biggest success is probably the name we have built for ourselves now. If people want brunch, we like to think we are top of the list. This year is pretty exciting as it sees us launch our event catering business and take the TUCK TRUCK on the road!
Scotland’s larder is one of the most luscious in the world, in my opinion. It is very easy to eat seasonally and even easier to eat locally as beautiful produce is available on our doorstep. Personally, I think the seafood is the best in the world.
We use Bowers of Stockbridge, Welches of Newhaven, Ochill fine foods and although our coffee is actually Swedish, it is supplied by a local distributor.
Half our baking is done in-house, the other half is supplied by our wonderful baker Mhairi, from Bonnach. She’s amazing!
We try and keep on top of trends coming from over from Australia, London or New York. Clean eating was definitely last year’s theme and it doesn’t appear to be going anywhere. Our LA eggs are so popular! Avocado…oh, Avocado…. so much Avocado!!
2017 is very exciting. Our new event catering website has now launched, with photography by OH! Taste, The TUCK TRUCK is on the road and booked up for most of the summer and we are catering at 11 weddings so far, and hopefully more! The plans for the cafe are to develop the Supper Clubs and keep doing what we are doing!
Yes, that’s the plan for 2018….! Watch this space.
We love visiting The Pantry for a delicious, healthy weekend brunch and we are delighted to be involved with such an ambitious team! We looking forward to coming back soon, and good luck with the catering – sounds like it’s going to be a very busy year!
